...the Alps of Texas!
In 2002, Dr. John Bertini of Houston presented a donation toward the painting of the Amtrak waiting room in the Alpine train depot. Dr. Bertini has been a generous supporter of the continuation of the Amtrak route through Alpine on its way to California and back to Florida.
Members of the Board of Directors of Historic Alpine began the project in early 2004 and have just completed the painting. The Boy Scouts and many volunteers also assisted with this project. Now that it is finished, it looks very welcoming and has made the depot waiting room much more interesting and comfortable for passengers.
